Make a Virtual Machine(s) to run on Workstation, ESXi, Fusion, and/or VMWare Server
Especially once V2 is out with IP support, being able to run this in a VM would make this a Killer App. Benefits would be 1) quick and easy deployment, 2) no need for a dedicated system. Perhaps even if you made an IP Camera Only version if the hardware is difficult, I still think it would be popular!

We have plans to provide a VMware Workstation setup that can be downloaded and configured. It would be very easy for the user to download, deploy and backup.
Thanks

Have a separate schedule for motion-triggered relays
I would like to trigger a relay to turn on lights, but only want to trigger them when it is dark outside. I could build a photocell to only trigger the relay, but it would be nice to have a schedule page for these events.

Embed date and time in exported video recordings
Some cameras do not support embedding the date/time in the video display. Therefore, our recording software must put the date/time display in the exported video recordings for us. Without date and time showing up in the videos, the footage is worthless as evidence in court cases. Our current NVR solution does this, but I hate everything else about the software and am planning to move to BlueCherry v2 if it supports this upon release.

Eldon,
I agree this is a very important feature. The analog cards provide this time stamp, so that part was easily. Dealing with streams that aren’t kind enough to add a OSD for the date / time is something that we need to implement.
I can’t promise this will be added before 2.0, as it will require some development thinking time to implement correctly.
Which cameras are you using that aren’t providing the date / time? Most of them that I’ve seen that are sane enough to support RTSP have support for OSD.
Thanks

Easy SSL certificate install
At times Apache can be a beast to install SSL certs. A quick and easy SSL install for the web interface would be nice

Allow separate motion detection zones for triggering relays, etc.
I would like to be able to trigger a relay (to turn on lights, ring a doorbell, etc.) with a different motion detection zone than the one used to trigger recording.

Add crashplan backup software
Crashplan (inexpensive online backup solution) allows you to run a "headless" version on linux. Currently you have to proxy your connection from another machine through SSH to configure the headless (bluecherry) machine. It would be awesome if there was a way to put in your crashplan credentials and encryption key and have the software configure itself. This would allow all video recordings to get archived offsite easily.
Headless info: http://support.crashplan.com/doku.php/how_to/configure_a_headless_client

Add option to specify duration of video before splitting
Currently the server splits the video every 15 minutes. For our uses, having longer video files is more convenient. It would be nice if this could be configured in the server.

add transcoding option
Streaming a lot of camera feeds over the internet takes a LOT of bandwidth. Please (eventually) add some transcoding options. There should be distinct options for different purposes. For example, recording footage may have one setting, such as raw, live monitoring over the local network may have another, such as a fast scale operation, and live monitoring over the public internet may have a third transcoding setting, such as a highly-compressed, down-scaled sample with fewer frames.
In SecuritySpy, for example, I monitor camera feeds with a 32 kbps stream. You don't see much, but you do see enough to know… more

Add a Time variable to motion events.
For example, I get a motion trigger and recording when a bug flies by a camera, or when one of the cameras aperatures automatically adjusts to changing light conditions. Also, on my dome cameras, headlight flashes from cars turning from adjoining side streets trigger motion. If we could have a variable that says "disregard motion events shorter than XXXX milliseconds (seconds) then it would be much easier to filter spurious events out, to fit local conditions.

Absolutely. We have a ticket for looking into this at http://improve.bluecherrydvr.com/issues/955. Improving the false positive rate for motion detection is definitely a goal.

Limit FPS for recorded events
Would be really usefull to limit the FPS that events get recorded with. It's nice to have a fluid live view but makes little sense to waste hdd space on 24fps video when even 1fps would be sufficient for surveilance purposes.
